Georgia’s ruling party ‘instrumentalises’ conservative values to stay in power, expert says

Georgia’s pro-Russia governing party Georgian Dream, backed by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, is instrumentalising conservative values to stay in power, former Georgian minister and professor at Science Po Tornike Gordadze told FRANCE 24, pointing to the party, which started out as a left-wing movement, embracement of far-right politics. “Mr. Ivanishvili personally has ties with Russia”, Gordadze added, citing US sanctions of the magnate.
